Basic Life Saving Skills That Everyone Should Know

Did you know that most heart-related emergencies occur outside of a hospital setting? This means that you can face an emergency at any time, requiring you to take action before receiving professional help. At Quick CPR, we ensure that you have the knowledge and skills to save a life. Our customized CPR classes cover all the bases, giving you the ability to assess the situation and act critically. As you embark on your CPR certification journey, our medical experts will ensure you learn essential but vital life-saving skills for various emergencies. Here are some life-saving skills we recommend for everyone.

Learning Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Heart attacks have become common today and are considered the leading cause of death in heart-related complications. Learning how to perform CPR goes a long way in giving the victim a fighting chance before the medical support arrives. The heart stops during a cardiac arrest, and CPR is a manual solution of manually pumping oxygenated blood to vital organs like the brain and heart. Enrolling on CPR classes is the most effective way of learning this technique and preventing further damage. The process involves pressing the chest not more than two inches down, at 120 compressions per minute, or two compressions a second.

Using the Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

CPR is effective during a cardiac arrest, but so is knowing how to use an automated external defibrillator. Using an AED is to complement CPR, ensuring that the blood in the body is flowing. These devices are recommended for people with CPR certification, but an automated voice machine can walk you through the steps if you lack the knowledge and skills needed.

Check for Signs of Life

If you ever find yourself in an emergency, it is always essential to check for signs of life, including pulse and breathing. The first thing you need to do in an emergency is to assess the safety of the surrounding before proceeding to provide care. Once you are in a safe area, kneel beside the victim and inquire if they are alright in a loud voice. If there's no response, proceed to check for breathing by looking for their chest's upward and downward movement. Place your index middle fingers on the side of the neck or inner wrist to check for a pulse.

Using the Bandage

If the victim is bleeding profusely, you need to get the bleeding under control to mitigate further blood loss. It is crucial to wear gloves before helping the victim, but take all the necessary precautions if you don't have them. Have the victim lie down and cover them using a blanket before elevating the injured area. Use a bandage or clean cloth to cover the wound, and apply pressure for twenty minutes before checking if it has stopped or reduced.
